Dipole AntennaDipole AntennaDipole antenna is nothing but an antenna with two poles. It is the simplest type of antenna. A dipole antenna is an aerial half a
wavelength long. It is an electrical device that is used to send or
receive radio or television signals. It consists of two rods connected
to a transmission line at the center. It has maximum radiations at
right angles to the antenna. It is also known as a doublet antenna.
Heinrich Rudolph Hertz invented the dipole antenna. It was invented in
1886. Antennas are good conductors of waves. Portable dipole antennas
are made from a wire. This wire can be rolled up when it is not used.
There are many types of dipole antennas. Ideal half-wave dipoles,
folded dipole, hertzian dipole, are some of the types of dipole
antennas. A short dipole is a physically feasible dipole. Two
conductors form this. An elementary doublet is a small length of
conductor. Types of antennas:
There are many types of dipole antennas available. Depending on the
requirement the antennas have different applications and are known as
the types of antennas. Dipole antennas, loop antennas, theoretical
antennas, television antennas, radio antennas, satellite antennas, omni
directional antennas, and cell phone antennas are some of the types of
antennas. Short wave permanent antennas can be trimmed to the proper
length. Every dipole antenna should have an insulator at the ends.
Without insulator if the dipole is used with a transmitter then there
are chances of flashover. Applications of dipole antennas:There are many applications of dipole antennas. The most common dipole antenna is the rabbit ears antenna. It is used with televisions. These are adjustable in length and angle. Many of the larger dipole antennas are in V shape with the center near the radio equipment on the ends of the grounds. This has a center support. The shorter dipoles can be hung vertically. Some of the dipoles with dial are used to clarify the picture. Dipole antennas can be found in FM band. These are folded dipole antennas. The tips of a folded antenna can be folded back until the antenna comprises one entire wavelength.
