Cable TelevisionCable television
Basically a cable is two or more wires bound together typically in a
common jacket. Cable TV is a system of providing television network to
the consumers. This is done through radio signals transmitted to the
televisions through fixed optical fibers. Cable TV can be abbreviated
as CATV. Initially it was known as Community Antenna Television
originated in 1948. It involves distributing a number of TV channels
collected at a central location to the subscribers. It can be
distributed within a community or can have many branches. In the modern
days having a cable connections is very expensive. Technology of Cable television:
A number of channels are distributed from a central location. They have
a branched network of optical fibers or coaxial cables and broadband
amplifiers. The most common architecture is the Hybrid fiber-coaxial
network. The use of different frequency allows many channels to
distribute through the same cable. This does not require separate wires
for each. A tuner box of the TV selects one of the channels from the
mixed signal. The traditional cable TV systems used to work strictly by
the way of analog signals. In the modern world the cable TV systems use
digital signal. The digital technology uses the compressed digital
signals. Modern cable TV systems also offer video on demand, telephony,
and high-speed data. A single provider serves most of the areas. Role of cable television in today’s life:
The role of cable television in today’s life cannot be ignored.
It is one of the vital requirements of modern life. It is the means of
entertainment. There are many more uses from a cable television.
